Software-Defined Imaging Radar

Developed at Zadar Labs

Our software-first radar platform combines a powerful Radar Operating System with novel statistical signal processing algorithms and flexible hardware platforms.

We call this integrated philosophy Software-Defined Imaging Radar.

Our full-stack approach breaks the barrier between intelligent machines and the environment, unleashing the true potential of radar for a 250x detection performance improvement over existing technology.

Our unified ecosystem provides 250x improved performance

Zadar's software-defined imaging radar platform is an easy-to-use, high performance sensing solution for intelligent and automated systems that plugs directly into your perception stack.

Full-stack SDIR consists of two components:

  1. zVUE, our software Radar Operating System →
  2. Any number of our three integrated radar sensor platforms

Our full-stack solution allows us to optimize all elements of the radar pipeline, unleashing the true power of radar and surpassing lidar's capability at a fraction of the cost. Full-stack SDIR delivers the prime sensing performance required for deployable autonomous driving, mobile robotics, and smart infrastructure.

Partial SDIR is achieved by connecting our zVUE Radar Operating System to existing radar sensors. zVUE's radar-aware data conditioning, connected radar fusion, and radar preperception algorithms are designed to improve any radar's sensing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I see a live demo?

Of course! Our component pages have videos of our detection performance and features. Contact us and we'd be happy to show you more.

  • Do you provide just the sensor hardware?

Our sensors are designed to work with zVUE as part of our unified Full-stack SDIR platform. This tight integration involving context-aware feedback from zVUE is what allows our sensors to achieve their performance. Contact us and we can work with you based on your specific integration needs.

  • Can I use your technology with other radar sensors?

Our zVUE Radar Operating System works with all 4D radar sensors in Partial SDIR mode. Its connected radar fusion, data conditioning, and radar preperception libraries immediately boost system performance on any platform. The full performance of radar can only be achieved by combining zVUE with Zadar radar sensors in Full-Stack SDIR mode.

  • Is radar reliable?

Our solid-state radar platforms are automotive-grade and are designed for use in harsh, low-maintenance environments.

  • Is your radar body-safe?

Yes, commercial 60 and 77GHz radars have been used safely for a long time. Our radar technology is not like military or marine radar. It is a low-power, surface-reflecting sensing technology and manufacturers follow strict transmit power limits. Our excellent detection range comes from highly sensitive detectors and SDIR system optimization, not from high transmit power.

  • Is your radar susceptible to interference?

Susceptibility to radar-radar interference is one of the core problems that SDIR solves. In our architecture, improving detection performance and increasing interference resistance go hand-in-hand. SDIR integrates several in-house innovations including RFTDMA modulation, action potential-based detection, and AI denoising that make interference a non-issue.
